Top 3: Rom Coms- Grace Bienstock ’26

Although you can watch romantic movies all year long, Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to rewatch your favorite rom coms or the classics. Here are three of my favorite romantic movies that you should watch this Valentine’s Day season!

  1. How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days: Starring Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson, this 2003 rom com tells the story of a marketing executive and a writer. Ben (Matthew McConaughey) is tasked with making a woman fall in love with him in 10 days in exchange for the opportunity to lead the campaign for a company selling diamonds. On the other hand, Andy (Kate Hudson) is a writer for a magazine who has to create a piece on how not to date a guy, also known as how to lose him in 10 days. When Ben and Andy meet, they decide to pick each other for their projects. They spend 10 days together, one with the intention of love and the other with the intention of a breakup. Throughout the film, the two fall in love and work towards navigating their work responsibilities without losing each other. This movie is very funny and charming and is an enjoyable and cute watch all the way through. The side characters, Andy and Ben’s friends, add to the charm and humor of the film. Additionally, watching Ben and Andy’s relationship unfold makes How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days the perfect romantic comedy to watch this Valentine’s Day.
  2. The Princess Bride: The 1987 film tells the story of a classic fairytale love. In the kingdom of Florin, there lived a young woman named Buttercup and a young man named Westley. Although the two plan to get married, Westley is presumed dead when he travels overseas. Fast forward five years, when Buttercup is engaged to the prince of Florin after being kidnapped by three outlaws. A masked man, who turns out to be Westley, saves her from the men who kidnapped her and the two are reunited. Buttercup is engaged to the prince against her will, so Buttercup and Westly attempt to escape the prince and his men, but are unsuccessful. The prince makes many empty promises to Buttercup, including that he will let Westly go when in reality he imprisoned him. I won’t spoil the ending, so watch the movie if you want to discover the fate of Westly and Buttercup and the true intentions of the prince. The Princess Bride is a beautiful, charming, and touching film. It is the perfect classic film to watch on Valentine’s Day.

Letters to Juliet: A young writer named Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) visits the wall in Verona, Italy where heartbroken people leave their letters to Juliet Capulet, a Shakespeare character. She finds a letter written decades before by a woman named Claire. Sophie reaches out to Claire and decides to convince her to look for her long lost love, Lorenzo, with the help of Claire’s grandson, Charlie. Charlie does not approve of their journey at first and does not get along with Sophie. Just as they are about to give up, they come across Lorenzo’s grandson, who reunites Claire and Lorenzo. Will Sophie follow her heart and be with Charlie? Or stay with her fiancé Victor in New York? Watch the film to find out! Letters to Juliet is another charming rom com that tells the story of finding new love and reuniting with old partners in a beautiful Italy setting. This is the perfect film if you’re looking for a classic, heartwarming movie.
